Who should come? Families who have or anticipate multiple shareholders
In the ownership transition process, business families often do not appreciate the critical difference between a single controlling owner and multiple, often minority, shareholders of most succeeding generations. While authority and responsibilities are clear with a single owner, authority and responsibilities are often ambiguous and the source of conflict when there are multiple shareholders. Moving to MULTIPLE shareholders is a quantum leap that requires crucial conversations which lead to clarity and alignment. Often neither the Senior nor the Rising Generation understands the new requirements and complexities.
We will hear from 2 companies with multiple shareholders who have very different stories and very different – but good – outcomes. And since Outside Directors are almost essential for companies with multiple shareholders, we will look at the value, purposes, and the process of developing effective Boards.
